"Tucking my sons in for what felt like the hundredth time that night after all the excuses (water, too dark, too light, hot, cold, hearing noises…I'm sure all you mums get it) and I said, 'For Pete's sake would you two just go to sleep!!' Then I hear a tiny voice whisper, 'Who's Pete?'"

"A, trying to get out of eating her tea, 'Mum, will you marry me?'"

"Had to laugh when talking to my 3 and 5-year-olds Tom and Mila about how Granny has gone all the way up to Kerikeri to see her sister (we live in Ohakune). Kids asked if we could go see Pop and I said for sure, we are on school holidays so we can do whatever, I would just have to see where Pop will be working (he does casual on top of the farm at their place). Mila quickly said that Pop won't be at work as he is going to stay at home and do ALL of granny's jobs instead!"

"My husband was dropping me off to an orchard in Edgecumbe last weekend so I could deliver my annual manager's report to the shareholders. Our 3 kids were securely stowed away in the back ready to be whisked off to Whakatane with Dad for a couple of hours of playgrounds and ice creams. Pulling into the driveway we stopped the car briefly and I exchanged a few pleasantries with some of the owners who were milling about the entrance. As we were about to roll on down to the shed, my normally quiet 4-year-old son declared very loudly and clearly for all to hear, 'MUM, I didn't know you had friends!' While looking about with a face full of genuine disbelief."

"My 2-year-old grandson came up to have tea with me. Straight away he grabbed the kitchen mop and started sweeping the floor saying, 'Too dirty!!' Hmmm, embarrassingly funny."

"My Dad's a team roper. Olivia watched one of his videos and said, 'Go Pop, hula hoop those cows!' Sweetest thing ever - we all call it hula hooping now."
